Who is the “Woman in the Red Dress?”
TAO Electronics introduced new OG all-in-one Vaporizer in totally unique approach. We’ve met with scriptwriter and director of introduction video Laslow Panaflex to discuss the concept and working process of “The Woman in the Red Dress”.
– Laslow, how did you come up with such an idea?
– It took us some time. The actual name OG – Original Gangster – lead us in obvious direction. And the design & aesthetics of the O.G. make it a perfect throwback to the classic pen-style vaporizers. So we felt it would be a perfect fit to re-imagine the classic film-noir gangster theme (with a modern twist of course) for the marketing.
– Some people after watching the video told me it had “Sin City” look.
– Well, I think “Sin City” was a good example of modern noir. We utilized some of its language. Obviously, highlighting red color on black and white background…but mostly we attempted to pay homage to some of the classic noir films of the 40’s and 50’s – The Killers, Maltese Falcon, etc…. we were very happy with what came out of the shoots..
– I have to admit it is pretty unusual approach for your type of industry
– That was the main intention! To create something unique, little bit edgy, sophisticated and of course entertaining. All our previous videos for other products served their purpose quite well. But after seeing O.G. package, really looking at the designs we had created, I realized we had to push the envelope further with any video we were going to do. When I shared my idea about creating background story for the O.G. at the meeting, all our creatives got excited.
– Was it challenging to write a script?
– I think the hardest part was to keep viewers’ attention on the O.G. pen. As a scriptwriter and director I had to make several changes during the whole production process, some of them were significant. I didn’t want the story to conflict with OG pen introduction. No matter what, but the customers should know that it was all about OG vaporizer.
– What’s your personal feeling after viewing finished product? Do you think you’ve achieved your main goal?
– I still see some areas of improvement. I would say it was great experiment which brought excitement and experience to everyone in our team.
– It seems to me that story of the Woman in Red Dress haven’t reached its end yet. Should we expect the story to continue?
– Let’s just say the story is just beginning for the Woman in the red dress.
